Frequently Asked Questions on my Newborn / Maternity Photography
Here are some important questions I often receive before my sessions.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions unanswered.
When is the ideal time to have a Maternity/ Newborn session and when should I book?
Newborn, maternity sessions should be booked early in your pregnancy as I take limited session per month.
The best time to have your maternity session is between 32-36 weeks.
Newborn sessions should be booked while you are still pregnant. This will secure my availability around your due date. Newborn sessions work best when your baby is between 5-12 days old. During this time, your little one still has the “curl”, which simply means her arms and legs still curl up easily. Also within the first 10 days, your baby falls into this deep sleep after being fed. That way I pose them, move their arms and legs around without disturbing them too much.
If you have already had your baby please contact me ASAP to see if I have any availability.
How long will the Maternity/ Newborn session last?
A Maternity session is around 1 hour.
A Newborn session normally lasts around 2-4 hours. As you simply cannot direct a small newborn, I adapt to his or her schedule. So if baby doesn’t want to sleep and you will need to attend to his/her needs, then there is plenty of time to do so.
Where will the photoshoot take place?
Your session can take place in my home studio in Sawley, or in your own home. I prefer working with natural light so if you have a nice bright room in your home we can arrange a home session for you.
Being in a familiar environment will keep your family members in a much more relaxed state and also capturing any other siblings in your own home will make the images extra special.
How far do you travel?
I don't mind how far away you live. I cover Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
I charge a travel fee to cover my transport cost.
What kind of props do you use and what will I need to provide?
I have a nice selection of maternity gowns, dresses.
I photograph your newborn on a large bean bag and in different baskets.
I have a big selection of beautiful throws, little blankets, hats, wraps, hairbands.
Also please have a think about any kind of prop that might have sentimental value to you and that you would like to incorporate into the pictures. This could be a specific blanket your grandma made or anything really.
What should I wear to my session?
Make sure what you wear is comfortable so you can move freely, a lovely maxi dress, a classy top, small fine details, a simple shirt, jeans.
Keep large, bold patterns to a minimum.
Avoid writing (text) on shirts and t-shirts. This really takes away from the focus of the photos: you.
Instead of having everyone wearing matching colours, try to stick to a simple colour scheme to create variation.
I would like my older son/daughter to be part of the shoot, is this possible?
Absolutely! I do encourage having sibling shots too . Capturing the interaction of your first born with your newborn can be quite emotional and unique, so this is a very important part of my sessions.
Do we, the parents, need to be/ can be in the photographs?
I do encourage you to think about this too. The images in which you and your husband are holding your precious baby can be the most precious images of them all.
How long after the session can we expect the images? Do I need to come to the studio to see the final images?
No. You will have a private password protected gallery roughly 2-3 weeks after the session which you can share with your family members and friends if you wish. You will receive the disk with the high res images after that.
Do you have payment plan options?
Yes. A £50 is required at the time of the booking, furher payments can be arranged depending on the package you choose. T&C apply.
Will my images stay private?
Privacy is taken seriously and your images will not be used in any way without your permission. If permission is given I like to share a few of my favourite images from the session on my Facebook Business Page/ Instagram/ website.
